Better Service Ahead In 2018, Indian River Shores Finally Sees Cell Tower
Poor cell phone service in Indian River Shores has been a thorny issue for many years.

But the happy news is Verizon Wireless has signed a lease for space on the 115-foot tower, yet it still could take several weeks to finalize permits and break ground.
It will take about eight weeks to build the tower. Once equipment is installed and the system is tested, it would be in operation in early 2018.
The tower, however, has capacity to service four cell phone providers. Verizon, as the first to sign a lease, will have the prime spot at the top of the tower, providing the strongest cell service to the widest area. The tower's "branches" will be its antennae.
Ten years earlier, before, two companies — Houston Cuozzo Group Inc. and Atlantic Coast Tower of Florida — proposed towers on property leased from the town. That idea, too, was rejected by the council after residents complained about its appearance.
But this time, however, is different, Stabe said, because he has seen the signed document from the wireless carrier. The town, he said, is ready to move forward quickly to expedite construction.
