Weatherproofing Solutions For 1/2 Cable Assembly To Site Antenna

For every wireless cell sites, the engineers must strictly consider and finish the weatherproofing job for the coax connector between 1/2" cable assembly and base station antenna. The coax connector is always the 7/16 DIN type or Mini DIN type (4.1-9.5 connector or 4.3-10 connector).

There are many solutions be selectable to weatherproof your 1/2" cable-to-antenna coax connection for wireless cell sites. They are: Butyl rubber and PVC tape kit, cold shrink tubes, and gel seal closures.

1. Butyl & PVC tape kit

Butyl & PVC tape kit is the most traditional method to seal the coax connectors. It is a kind of universal weatherproofing kit for connectors and splices, include butyl rubber tape and PVC tape. It provides a multi-layer, long-term environmental seal over multiple connections.

Six rolls of 2-1/2 in butyl rubber tape (600mm*63.5mm*1.5mm)

2. Cold shrink tubes

Cold shrink tube is a advanced weatherproofing solution with easier installation procedure. The cold shrink tube is an open-ended tubular sleeves. The sleeves are factory expanded and assembled onto a removable supporting plastic core. As the core is unwound, the insulating sleeve shrinks to form a tight seal.

There are 2 kinds of cold shrink tubes according to its material. It is silicone rubber cold shrink tubes and EPDM rubber cold shrink tubes.

Item No. CST-11, is silicone rubber cold shrink tube for 1/2” cable to antenna through DIN 7/16 connector. Item No. CST-01, is silicone rubber cold shrink tube for 1/2” cable to antenna through Mini DIN connector.

3. Gel seal closures.

Gel seal closure is the most advanced weatherproof solution also with easier installation. This closure contains an innovative gel material and provides an efficient block against moisture & salt mist.
